13 Quotes from a book ‘Anything You Want’ by Derek Sivers

Hello SCG,

I trust you are enjoying wonderful summer days and sunshine out there – away from you PC screens. I will not be long today, as I prefer to spend time outdoors these days too. You might have noticed that 4th book published by Seth Godins the Domino Project was launched at the end of June. Delightful tiny book or manifesto full of Derek’s (@siverswisdom is ready to inspire you too. Derek “unintentionally” grew his business CD Baby to 22 million USD worth within 10 years. Then he sold it to charity! As a teaser for you to get your own copy of Anything You Want > I am offering you 13 hand – picked quotes from it. Here you are.

  1. Hi Ivana,
I hope you are well. I listened to Derrick’s book once on audio and want to listen again. Thank you for pulling the quotes. They are a good quick reminder of some of the ideas in the manifesto. My favorite quote is “It’s a big world. You can loudly leave out 99% of it. People in that 1 % will come to you because you have shown how much you value them.”

I have to constantly keep reminding myself to serve my market with passion. When CD Baby became big the larger record labels came to him and wanted to put their artists on the site and he stood his ground. He knew that he was there for the independent guy and that was his focus from the first day that he started his site. That focus was a big part of his success.

So far I like the Domino Project’s concept. For example, I am just now listening to Gary Vanerchuk’s book, The Thank You Economy, because I know his recording will be more up to date than the hard cover edition. He records his own books and goes off the script to update his book as he reads it. The year long process to get a book to stores is a big problem for many books because the technology that they write about changes so quickly. Seth’s idea to bring smaller, manifesto type books to market quickly is one way to solve this lag time. So far so good,

    Take care Ivana. Thanks again.
    Scott

    • Hey Scott!
Soooo, great to hear from you! “Long time no see”
      😉
Yeah, serving your best to a small tribe of your fans, is more than enough to lead happy life. Domino Project is definitely creating a ruckus and it is great fun to be part of it.

Thanks again for popping up on #IS, Scott!
Keep on shipping, keep on making difference.
      Be well!

  2. Hi Ivana!
Thanks for the quotes, seems a book worth buying 🙂
For me the quote: “When you say “no” to most things, you leave room in your life to throw yourself completely into that rare thing that makes you say “HELL YEAH!”” makes a lot of sense. Most probably because I tend to say yes too much…

  3. Inspiring moust of gets me this ideas :

If you set up your business as you don’t need the money, people are happier to pay you.

In the end it is about what you want to be, not what you want to have.

Anything you hate to do, someone else loves. So, find that person and let him do it.

I realized that the bigger learning & growing challenge for me was letting go, not staying on.

why hmm maybe i feel and fond my self there i see the road that can take me where i want to be 😀

Maybe i will read it after i finish with my wish list 😀

but good job Ivana every time i read something here i feel mystical energy that is telling me yea you can do what you want, you will be able to touch your goals 🙂 wow it let me be happy 😀 thx

  4. > In the end it is about what you want to be, not what you want to have.
I like that, and so true.

  5. “I realized that the bigger learning & growing challenge for me was letting go, not staying on.” Letting go for me was a great deal.

  6. kleine222 says:

Starting small puts 100% of your energy on actually solving real problems for real people. It gives you a stronger foundation to grow from.
I am buying that book now because of that quote.

  7. “It’s a big world. You can loudly leave out 99% of it. People in that 1 % will come to you because you have shown how much you value them.” Sounds like a great book! -Ryan
